About This Visa

There is no Vatican tourist visa for ordinary Indian travellers. Vatican City is an enclave in Rome. Holy See: entry and residence are set by Vatican law (7 June 1929) and the 1932 entrance regulation. A holiday visit to St Peter’s and the Museums is reached through Italy. Indian ordinary-passport holders need an Italian short-stay Schengen (C) visa for tourism.

Usual staff path: Italy Visa Application Centre (VFS) for the New Delhi jurisdiction, or the other Italian posts if they live outside that area. Italy must be the only Schengen stop, or the main stop, or the first entry. Apply no earlier than six months before travel. A visa does not guarantee entry at the Schengen border — they should carry copies of the papers used in the file.

Documents Required

Embassy of Italy, New Delhi — Schengen C (tourism)

  • Indian ordinary, diplomatic, or service passport (Italy accepts those three)
  • File through VFS (appointment) or the Embassy channel the post names
  • Biometrics (10 fingerprints and a photo) unless prints are still stored from a Schengen file in the last 59 months. Children under 12 are exempt from fingerprints
  • Demand draft to “Italian Embassy” if they lodge at the Embassy; VFS also takes cash, demand draft, or NEFT plus the VFS fee

Use the tourism document list on the Embassy visa page. Do not buy non-refundable tickets before the decision.
