1. Visa Types

Open a type to see processing time, stay, fees, and documents.

Processing time

Clock starts when the Embassy registers an admissible file — not when they pay on ApplyVisa or file at VFS. Usually 15 calendar days, up to 45 if more checks or the file goes to the Immigration Service. VFS-to-Embassy transport is extra (MFA: 1–2 days). Peak March–September: Embassy India page — file at VFS at least 4 weeks ahead. Earliest 6 months; as a rule the file should be at the mission 15 days before travel.

Stay period

Up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Entry and exit days both count, midnight to midnight.

Validity

As issued. The Danish mission adds a 15-day grace period on the sticker — validity dates and allowed stay are not the same. Check name, dates, and passport number on the sticker.

About This Visa

Indian ordinary-passport holders need a Schengen C. India is Main Group 3 on nyidanmark (do not quote the other nationality lists). Private visits: they normally need a qualifying host in Denmark (close family as on that page). Tourism: Denmark runs a travel-agency/tourist arrangement for India — they must still meet the general C rules. Diplomatic and official Indian passports: no visa for Denmark itself; they may still need a visa for other Schengen states.

Usual staff path: https://applyvisa.um.dk — register, fill, pay, print and sign the cover letter. Wait up to 24 hours, then book VFS as the Embassy India pages say (helpline +91 22 6786 6009, Monday–Friday 08:00–17:00). Do not use visa.vfsglobal.com/ind/en/dnk or the old dk.vfsglobal.co.in booking path — they do not load. VFS does not prepare the file. Fees stay if the visa is refused.

How to apply

  2. Wait up to 24 hours. Book VFS (appointment only). Helpline +91 22 6786 6009. Fingerprints unless taken in the last 59 months; under 12 exempt.
  3. Bring the signed cover letter, papers, and passport. Passport stays with the file until a decision.
  4. Status: VFS as they instruct. Embassy helpline +91 11 4209 0751 Monday, Wednesday, Friday 14:00–15:00 — no file status. Schengen email delambvisa@um.dk.

Who can apply

  • Indian ordinary-passport holders living in India: ApplyVisa then VFS in India. Denmark must be the main destination.
  • Private visit (Main Group 3): qualifying host — spouse, partner, children, parents, siblings (and accompanying spouses) as on nyidanmark. Boy/girlfriend: they must have met in person in the last year; online-only is not enough.
  • Holiday: use the India travel-agency/tourist arrangement on nyidanmark, plus the Embassy tourist checklist.
  • Greenland or Faroe Islands as well as Schengen: one file at a Danish mission — tell VFS. Not if they apply through another country’s representation.

How to track

VFS, the centre that took the file. Hosts only get status with a power of attorney. If the file goes to the Immigration Service, they write to the Embassy, which then contacts the applicant. Decision goes back to VFS or the mission — not to the host.
