About This Visa

Indian ordinary-passport holders need a visa for tourism. India is not on Mongolia’s visa-free tourist list for 2026 (that list is 34 countries in Europe, plus Australia and New Zealand). Indian diplomatic and official passports may enter without a visa for up to 90 days, under the Embassy of Mongolia in India’s exemption table.

The usual path is a K2 tourist e-Visa on the official portal https://evisa.mn (the Immigration Agency also names www.evisa.mn and https://www.evisa.gov.mn). Fill the form, pay the e-Visa fee online, and wait for the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) by email. Print the ETA or keep it on a phone and show it with the same passport at immigration. An e-Visa does not guarantee entry. Use it only for tourism — other activity is not allowed on this visa.

Immigration publishes two processing times: one page says the ETA arrives within 48 hours; another says within 3 working days / 72 hours. Keep both. The passport must be valid for at least 180 days when they apply for an e-Visa.

Documents Required

Official e-Visa portal — https://evisa.mn

  • Ordinary Indian passport, valid at least 180 days on the date of the e-Visa application
  • Online payment of the e-Visa fee (the public pages do not print a fixed amount — quote the checkout)
  • Email address for the ETA. During portal maintenance, official notices have said emails may come from helpdesk@veritech.mn

Carry a printed or on-screen ETA and the same passport at the immigration check post, where the e-Visa is scanned.

Processing time

5 working days. Some files take 5–10 working days. Urgent: after 24 hours, at the higher fee.

Stay period

Up to 30 days. Extend by 30 days at the Immigration Agency if you apply at least 4 days before the visa ends.

About This Visa

Use this when they cannot or should not use the e-Visa, or they want a sticker from the Embassy of Mongolia in New Delhi. A regular tourist visa allows a stay of up to 30 days. It may be extended for a further 30 days at the Immigration Agency of Mongolia if they apply at least four days before the visa expires.

The Embassy’s India page: normal processing is 5 working days if the papers are complete; some files take 5–10 working days. Ask the Embassy before you confirm flights. The Consular Department page on consul.mn still says 3 working days for a standard embassy file — keep both, and follow New Delhi for India appointments.

Bring printed papers only. The Embassy will not take soft copies. Fill the form clearly in Mongolian or English. Visa and Mastercard are accepted.

Documents Required

Embassy of Mongolia, New Delhi — tourist, without a separate visa approval

About This Visa

Use a transit visa only when Mongolia is a stop on the way to another country. The Immigration Agency issues a K6 e-Visa for transit of up to 10 days. Apply on the same official portal as K2: https://evisa.mn. Pay online and travel with the ETA and passport.

consul.mn also allows a transit visa at the Mongolian border if they hold an onward flight or train ticket and, where needed, a visa for the next country. Stay is up to 10 days. The visa fee is paid on arrival. Complete the application form before they land if they will use the border path, so the file is not delayed.

Documents Required

K6 e-Visa — https://evisa.mn

  • Ordinary Indian passport, valid at least 180 days when they apply
  • Online payment of the e-Visa fee (quote checkout)
  • ETA by email, printed or on a phone

Border transit — consul.mn

  • Onward flight or train ticket

2. Good to Know

Rules and notes that apply to every visa type

How to apply

  1. e-Visa (usual): open https://evisa.mn, choose tourist (K2) or transit (K6), complete the form, and pay. Keep the application ID from the payment email.
  2. Border tourist visa: India is on the official “tourist visa at the international border” list. consul.mn says tourists from listed countries may obtain an on-arrival visa at Ulaanbaatar airport or other Mongolian border points. Pay the visa fee on arrival. Confirm the current fee at the counter — it is not printed on that list.
  3. Embassy: take printed papers to 34 Golf Links, New Delhi. Standard fee INR 400 (5 working days) or INR 2,800 (urgent, after 24 hours).

Who can apply

  • Indian ordinary-passport holders need a visa for tourism. They are not on the 2026 visa-free tourist list.
  • Usual path: K2 e-Visa on https://evisa.mn.
  • India is also on the Immigration Agency list of countries that may be issued a tourist visa at an international border without a prior visa permit. That is not visa-free — they still receive a visa and pay the fee on arrival.
  • Embassy sticker: New Delhi, when they need a paper visa.
  • Transit of up to 10 days: K6 e-Visa, or a transit visa at the border with an onward ticket.
  • Indian diplomatic and official passports: visa-free for up to 90 days on the Embassy exemption table.

e-Visa

  • Official portals named by Immigration: https://evisa.mn and www.evisa.mn. https://www.evisa.gov.mn is the same Electronic Visa Application System.
  • Types for eligible countries, including India: K2 tourism and K4 sports or cultural events (up to 30 days), and K6 transit (up to 10 days).
  • Applications are received at any time. One Immigration page says the ETA is emailed within 48 hours; another says within 3 working days / 72 hours.
  • Status: https://evisa.mn/en/check with the application ID sent after payment.
  • Print the ETA or save it on a phone. Show it with the passport so the e-Visa can be scanned.

Watch-outs

  • Do not quote visa-free for an Indian ordinary passport. The 2026 30-day tourist exemption does not include India.
  • A visa or e-Visa does not guarantee entry. Border officers take biometrics.
  • The host or hotel must register the traveller online within 48 hours of arrival (Immigration 48-hour registration).
  • e-Visa: passport at least 180 days valid at apply. Embassy sticker: at least six months valid before the intended travel date. Keep both rules.
  • Do not work or study on a tourist or transit visa.

How to track

e-Visa: check status at https://evisa.mn/en/check with the application ID from the payment email.

Embassy sticker: contact the New Delhi mission. consul.mn asks you to confirm processing times with the Embassy before you lock travel dates.
