About This Visa

Indian ordinary-passport holders need this visa. India is on the MFA visa-required list. Cyprus is in the EU but not in Schengen. A Cyprus visa is only for the Republic of Cyprus — it is not a Schengen visa. There is no electronic application.

File at the High Commission in New Delhi by email appointment, or at a VFS centre (the High Commission outsourced intake from 21 July 2026). Official VFS site: https://visa.vfsglobal.com/ind/en/cyp. The visa fee is non-refundable if refused. Pay the High Commission fee in euro cash. VFS also charges a service fee: High Commission EUR 2.60 excluding GST; VFS Kolkata centre prints INR 541 including GST.

Apply from 6 months before travel, and no later than 15 calendar days before the trip starts. A visa does not guarantee entry — border officers can still refuse.

Documents Required

Admissible file (High Commission)

  • Manually completed, signed application form (original + one copy of all papers). Free official PDF: https://www.gov.cy/media/sites/19/2024/06/CY-Visa-Application-Form.pdf
  • Passport issued within the last 10 years, at least two blank pages, valid at least 3 months after leaving Cyprus
  • Biometrics (photo and fingerprints) at submission
  • Visa fee (euro cash at the High Commission)

Supporting papers — High Commission

  • Recent photo: full face, light background, face at least 34 mm, no tinted glasses
  • Travel medical insurance, minimum EUR 30,000, for the whole stay, valid in Cyprus (the same page also says valid across Schengen-acquis states). Do not use an insurer under EU sanctions
  • Funds: last 6 months’ bank statements, bank letter, salary proof, or a host’s declaration of support
  • Proof of work, study or residence
  • Hotel voucher (tourist) or company registration and employer letter with job title and reason for travel (business)
  • Flight reservation — https://www.gov.cy/en/information/visas/ says do not buy the ticket before the visa is issued
  • Under 18: written consent of both parents / guardians (legalised by an EU mission if they live abroad)
  • English or Greek translation of any other-language document

VFS India

  • Follow the VFS checklist on the day. It can ask for extra papers (photo size, bank period, tax, covering letter) that are stricter than the High Commission list.

2. Good to Know

Rules and notes that apply to every visa type

Who can apply

  • Indian ordinary-passport holders need a Category C visa to enter Cyprus. India is on the MFA visa-required list.
  • Indian diplomatic, official and service passports do not need a visa (MFA exemption list).
  • Since June 2014, a valid double or multiple-entry Schengen Category C visa is treated as a Cyprus national visa for transit or stay up to 90 days in 180. A single-entry Schengen visa is not enough on that wording.
  • The High Commission also lets holders of a valid EU Category D visa or residence permit (except UK and Ireland) or a Schengen-country permit enter without a Cyprus visa, if they can show purpose, lodging, funds and are not on the Cyprus ban list. The older MFA page still names Bulgarian, Croatian and Romanian national visas / permits. Turkey and Azerbaijan are excluded from this shortcut.
  • Family members of Cypriot citizens still need a visa, plus travel insurance.

Airport transit and border visa

India is not on the MFA airport-transit visa list (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, DRC, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia, Sri Lanka, Turkey). Ordinary Indian passengers who stay in the international transit area and do not enter Cyprus do not need an ATV on that list.

A visa at the border is only for emergencies after the Director of the Civil Registry and Migration Department approves it. https://www.gov.cy/en/information/visas/ says a border-issued visa can allow a stay of up to 15 days. Do not send ordinary tourists to Larnaca or Paphos for a visa on arrival.

How to extend

Category C holders apply at the local Alien and Immigration Unit for an extension of up to 90 days from the date of entry, within 6 months. If the sticker says “Final”, MFA Schengen and Consular Affairs must approve first. https://www.gov.cy/en/information/visas/ also says force-majeure / humanitarian extensions are free; other personal-reason extensions cost EUR 30. Border-issued visas cannot be extended.
