About This Visa

Indian ordinary-passport holders need this visa for a normal mainland tourist trip. They are not visa-free. There is no mainland China e-Visa for this file.

Fill the form on https://www.visaforchina.cn, print it, and submit at the CVASC that covers the traveller’s state. The Embassy and Consulates decide the type, entries, validity and stay from the papers — they may not match what was requested.

Government visa fees above are the reduced Embassy rates until 31 December 2026. Delhi CVASC also charges a non-refundable centre fee (regular INR 2,107; express INR 3,106, tax included). Embassy express is INR 1,800; urgent INR 2,700. Pay cash or demand draft at the centre. Total = visa fee + centre fee. Delhi CVASC says the table is adjusted every quarter with the USD–INR rate.

Do not send a FIT / ordinary tourist without a visa except the 24-hour airside transit rule, or a group path that actually matches the NIA extras (cruise group or Hong Kong / Macao group).

Documents Required

Every applicant (Embassy, August 2024)

  • Online form and confirmation page from the CVASC site
  • Original passport valid at least 6 months, 2 or more blank visa pages, plus photocopy of the bio pages; old passports from the last 5 years

  • Copy of the last Chinese visa, if any

Tourist extras — Embassy

About This Visa

For commercial and trade activity. Same CVASC filing as Tourist (L). Add the Chinese partner papers below. First-time applicants are still usually given single entry unless they show a previous Chinese visa from the last five years and enough passport validity.

Same government fee table and Delhi centre fees as Tourist (L).

Documents Required

  • All general papers listed under Tourist (L)
  • Commercial papers, trade-fair invitation, or other invitation from the Chinese partner or host
  • Copy of the inviting company’s business licence (scope of business must show; if missing, get it from the company or print it from the official register)
  • Copy of both sides of the inviter’s ID, or the legal representative’s ID

Delhi CVASC also asks that the licence copy carry a handwritten Chinese signature and date from the responsible person, stating it is only for the named applicant’s visa. A printed signature is not accepted there.

Processing time

Same Embassy / CVASC working-day times as Tourist (L)

About This Visa

Use a G visa when the traveller will pass through mainland China and cannot use a visa-free transit or group path.

24-hour visa-free transit (all nationalities, including India): NIA says this applies at all open ports if the traveller has a confirmed onward international ticket and stays inside the restricted port area. Leaving that area needs a temporary entry permit from border inspection.

240-hour (10-day) visa-free transit: NIA list of 57 countries (updated 20 August 2026) does not include India. Do not quote 10-day visa-free transit for Indian ordinary passports.

Cruise groups and Hong Kong / Macao groups are not a G visa — see Regional visa-free.

Documents Required

  • All general papers listed under Tourist (L)
  • Onward air, train or ship ticket with confirmed date and seat to the next country or region

2. Good to Know

Rules and notes that apply to every visa type

How to apply

  1. Open https://www.visaforchina.cn and choose the Delhi, Mumbai or Kolkata centre.
  2. Complete the online form and print the confirmation page and full form. Sign them.
  3. Take the passport, photos and supporting papers to that centre on a working day.

The Embassy (August 2024) says appointments were dropped from November 2023 and walk-in is allowed within the day’s cut-off. The Delhi CVASC notice still says make an appointment. Follow the centre website on the day of travel.

After filing, papers are not taken back except for humanitarian or force-majeure cases. A returned file cannot be reused — file again if travel is urgent.

Who can apply

  • Indian ordinary-passport holders need a visa for mainland China on a normal tourist or business trip. They are not on the 30-day unilateral list and not on the 240-hour transit list.
  • No visa if they already hold a valid Chinese residence permit, permanent-resident ID, or a valid APEC business / virtual card — or if a mutual visa-exemption applies (ordinary Indian passports do not).
  • 24-hour airside transit and some official group paths are separate — see the visa-free extras. Do not treat those as a FIT tourist visa-free.
  • Diplomatic / official / courtesy visas go to the Embassy consular section, not the CVASC walk-in stream.
  • Journalists (J1 / J2) go through the Embassy press / MFA notification path — not this tourist file.

Missions and visa centres

File at the CVASC for the traveller’s state. Embassy (August 2024): Maharashtra and Karnataka → Mumbai; Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal → Kolkata; all other states → New Delhi. CVASC also says check the passport issue place.

How to track

Use the same CVASC account / reference on https://www.visaforchina.cn. If the printed collection date has passed, ask the centre whether they have a supplement or interview notice. Some files take longer than the standard Embassy 3–4 working days.

Photo and fingerprints

  • Two colour photos, 48 × 33 mm, full face, front view, bare head, not older than 6 months
  • Fingerprints at the CVASC unless exempt: under 14 or over 70; already given on the same passport at the Embassy or Delhi CVASC in the last 5 years; or fingers cannot be taken
  • Embassy also lists a temporary exemption for short-term single or double visas (stay under 180 days). Check the latest Embassy notice before telling a client they can skip biometrics

Visa-free transit

24-hour visa-free transit: all nationalities (including India), all open ports, onward ticket, stay inside the restricted port area (NIA, 20 August 2026). Leaving that area needs a temporary entry permit from border inspection.

240-hour (10-day) visa-free transit: 57 listed countries only. India is not on that list. Do not quote 10-day transit for an Indian ordinary passport.

Regional visa-free (groups)

These are NIA group rules (20 August 2026). They are not a FIT tourist visa-free. Stay is counted from 00:00 the day after entry.

  • Hainan 30-day visa-free and the nationwide 30-day unilateral list: India is not on either list.
  • Cruise tourist group: two or more foreigners, organised and received by a travel agency registered in China, arriving by the same cruise via one of 13 ports (Beihai, Dalian, Guangzhou, Haikou, Lianyungang, Qingdao, Sanya, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Tianjin, Wenzhou, Xiamen, Zhoushan). Stay up to 15 days in Beijing and the 11 listed coastal provinces. They must continue with that cruise and leave on the same ship.
  • Hong Kong or Macao tourist group into Guangdong: ordinary passports from a country with diplomatic relations with China. India has a Chinese Embassy in New Delhi, so this can apply if the group rules are met. Enter HK or Macao first, then Guangdong as a group run by a travel agency registered in either SAR. Stay up to 6 days in Dongguan, Foshan, Guangzhou, Huizhou, Jiangmen, Shantou, Shenzhen, Zhaoqing, Zhongshan or Zhuhai. Enter and leave mainland China as that group.
  • Hong Kong or Macao tourist group into Hainan: same diplomatic-relations rule. Enter HK or Macao first, then Hainan as that SAR-registered group. Stay up to 6 days in Hainan. Enter and leave Hainan as that group.
  • ASEAN group into Guilin or Xishuangbanna: ASEAN passports only. India is not ASEAN.
